Old Oak Common Station – Unrivalled Connectivity
HS2’s new superhub station, Old Oak Common in West London, will offer passengers seamless travel making journeys in, out and around London’s transport system quick, easy and convenient.
As well as being a key stop on Britain’s brand new high speed railway, offering quick, reliable and comfortable journeys to the Midlands, the North and Scotland, it will also be the 42nd stop on London’s new Elizabeth Line. From here London’s West End will be just 10 minutes away, and Liverpool Street station just 20 minutes away. Air passengers will be able to get to Heathrow using either the Elizabeth Line or the Heathrow Express, with journey’s taking as little as 10 minutes.
Beyond London, Old Oak Common it will serve as a gateway to Wales and the Southwest, through Great Western Mainline services. This once industrial area of West London is being transformed into a thriving super-connected neighbourhood, and an exciting development that will build a legacy for the local community, to be enjoyed for generations to come.

HS2 completes 3,130 tonne second Wendover Dean Viaduct deck slide
Переглядів 65 тис.12 годин тому
New footage from HS2 shows the latest stage of a complex year-long project to slide almost half a kilometre of bridge deck into position, high above the Misbourne Valley in Buckinghamshire. Over a 20-hour period in May 2024, engineers working for the high-speed rail project carefully slid the 3,130 tonne structure 270 metres, using Teflon pads to reduce friction - a material usually found to th...

    I love the railways, and fully support HS2, but can someone please explain why there needs to be so much destruction of the area surrounding the tracks. It's a two track railway for heavens sake, so why is all the earth works along its length 300 to 500 meters wide. And why is there not even a meter of track laid yet?

    Indisputably fantastic engineering but a tragic shame all this money skill and technology wasn’t directed towards projects we really really need such as producing sustainable energy alternatives, our rapidly declining water services and local transport improvements, which HS2 is not. Environmentally catastrophic and so much else in desperate need of investment and improvement in our country.

    I totally agree with the comments by supporters to build out the HS2 system. I am in awe of how well your system was planned and thought out and enjoy the updates. Looking on as a native Californian living in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1962, the naysayers and short-sighted citizens here have been arguing about mass transit since the 1950s. The original BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) system funding was barely passed by the voters way back in the 1960s and 2 South Bay Counties opted out of the system. This resulted in the big mistake not bringing BART (the 1950s/60s designed rapid transit) around the Bay at the onset (sound familiar?). People at that time were complaining about the cost and what would happen to the suburbs. As I'm writing this, the approximate 6 mile connection to San Jose is estimated to cost almost $13 BILLION dollars! The entire BART system in 1976 was approximately $1.6 Billion Dollars (about $12 Billion in 2023 dollars). My point is this - don't be as stupid and short-sighted as some of your American descendants (lol) - unless the population in the UK and around the world starts declining, all parts of your system will need to get built out as originally planned. It will just cost more and more as time goes on. I am sick and tired of the conservatives here complaining about how high their taxes are when they fight to get their $50 Million dollar mansions highlighted in the Wall Street Journal and regular people have to live with substandard public transportation. It sounds like you have something similar going on. Oh, yes - for those of you who keep track of transportation around the world, here in California (with about 10% of the U.S. population) we are arguing about CA High Speed Rail. UGH! It seems that human being never change! BTW - my wife and I absolutely loved our 2019 visit to London and to Warner Brothers Studio/Harry Potter. Loved the food, people and history. 2019 is when I first heard about and saw HS2 at the Euston Station. We also enjoyed being able to take public transport everywhere - even when it involved a lot of walking between stations. 🙂

    Manchester needs to develop strong horizontal ties with Liverpool, Sheffield and Leeds. It will be more beneficial to the North to be connected than to become sleeper towns for London. BUT, once that has been achieved, then it's essential faster connections are achieved as originally envisioned by HS2 for max gains. Coud we do both at once? It'd be a dream! We're gonna need a lot of private investment to pull it off; hopefully Burnham and Andy Street successor will manage to do it.

    Incredible world class example of catastrophic large infrastructure project fail. Partly stemming from the initial hubristic brief to be 'the fastest" - meaning insane choices on route (less bends, more precious habitat destruction, more tunnels). The whole thing given free reign to sink billions into a construction black hole ( who can even begin to imagine the wealth generated for certain stakeholders), inevitably resulting in a political backlash. The people responsible should be ashamed.

  • @ClarkeDesign

    Sadly, sounds like this video was made BEFORE the culling of the rest of the route. Now just connect two big cities that already had fairly decent connections. Unless this links MANY places, it is a marvellous waste of a great opportunity.

    The map at 0.08 is misleading, implying connectivity/interchanges with nearby lines that won't actually be there even five years after it is completed. It isn't going to be linked into the London overground, Central line, Southern line or the West coast main line as implied in the graphic. 🙁 Upon opening HS2 at Old Oak Common will only link with the GWR mainline and the Elizabeth line. Are they even making provision to link into all the other nearby lines to make it a truly well connected high speed hub? Old Oak Common - a missed opportunity.

    • @neilboulton9813
      @neilboulton9813 2 дні тому

      It may well be misleading but can you explain to me as the Overground, Central Line and GWR are all on different alignments/routes, so the right decision was to integrate Elizabeth Line with GWR and HS2. There is no point integrating it with the West Coast Mainline as they are effectively the same route. So how would you have knitted it together for maximum connectivity remembering land availability and existing roads etc?
